Ni Yulan

Ni Yulan has peacefully defended the rights of victims of forced evictions for years. After she had filmed the demolition of a home in 2002, she was arrested and severely mistreated, to the extent that she can no longer walk unaided and remains in a wheelchair. After she tried to petition the authorities over the mistreatment she suffered, she was sentenced to one year in prison and her lawyer’s license was revoked.

After her release, Ni Yulan continued her work for the growing number of victims of forced eviction. She was arrested twice, she received a travel ban and was forcibly removed from her home at least seven times, most recently in April 2017.
